Suturing Techniques
I’ve been doing some suturing practice which came alongside with some research.
This is the horizontal mattress suture technique. It is usually used for closing high tension wounds or wounds on fragile skin as it has two points of tension in each side of the wound. This helps to spread the tension along the edges of the wound.
This is the vertical mattress suture technique. It is usually used for closing posterior neck or concave skin surfaces wounds, as these are located on areas that tend to invert. As you can see, there are also two needle entry point in each side of the wound, this is done so as to distribute the tension.

This is the first satisfactory explanation I have heard for the different uses of these two sutures. Thank-you!
